Back in 1986, California passed Proposition 65, aka the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act. This law requires products sold in California have a warning label if they contain any one of the listed chemicals which can cause cancer or reproductive harm. Prop 65 has expanded greatly over the years and now includes over 850 chemicals found in everyday items like makeup, clothes, furniture, and cars.

Because Jofran is a nationwide distributor, all applicable product will be labeled with the possible exposure from the Prop 65 list. The label says, "WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including wood dust, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm.  For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/furniture.”*
